Airport Watch is a volunteer, community-based initiative, modelled after Neighbourhood Watch, that seeks to improve the safety and security of our airport by engaging active spotter community members.
Our purpose is to help prevent crime and terrorism by asking its members to look out for anything out of the ordinary and to contact the police or Airport Authority if they see anything suspicious.
In addition to our "spotting" activity, and in partnership with the Airport Authority, members contribute to the overall security of
the airport by observing, recording and reporting all suspicious activity or security concerns to the Airport Authority.
But we don’t act as a police force or security. Our job will be if we see something to:
Airport Watch volunteers provide extra eyes and ears around the airport perimeter and observe, record and report suspicious or unusual activities.
Our community service members and their vehicles are clearly identified with high visibility clothing.
Our volunteers are active community members, who are dedicated to safety and security and have demonstrated a commitment to contributing to the outer safety on the airports similar to a neighbourhood watch program.
The program's objective is to identify and deter criminal activity at you airport. Effective crime prevention requires a proactive approach to anticipating risks and dealing with them immediately. Typically, most crimes occur when the opportunity is present and the risk of getting caught is low. Airport Watch seeks to employ crime prevention tactics designed to significantly reduce the opportunity and increase the risk of getting caught, thereby reducing overall crime.
Being a member does not require much dedicated time. Members go about their daily business as usual. Many are aviation enthusiasts and/or aviation photographers and already spend time at the airport. Others may be dog owners who already visit airport property regularly. However, anyone with an interest in helping to deter and prevent crime around the airport is welcome.
They have all ready build up a watch program in some airports. Spotters keep an eye out for things and persons that don't belong there.
Like
This things need to be reported to the airport police or airport security. Our watch personnel will not engage or take contact whit this person(s) just Observe, record and report what we see to the airport police.
Since the plane spotters hanging round the airport anyway so can this be a interesting program. Plus you will get easer spotter time from both the police and airport security staff.
Airports:
In the beginning will we try to get started on the international airports and take it from there. The most important here is that we get a deal whit the police and the airport staff.
Where we will start this program is for the moment not decided, since per to day we don't have any members that is close to any major airport. (so are you interested let us know)
We are also interested to hear from you if you are close to a medium or small airport or are just interested in aviation in general.
Members:
All members that are interested to be in the airport watch have to be from 18 years old and up. (This is for legal reasons) Before they can start will the police have a background check on everyone to see if they have any criminal record and so on.
Since we are not a security company we don't need any papers to do this. You just do the same thing that you normally do on the airport, but keep an eye out for things or persons that don't fit in or acting suspicious in any way, it's better to report one to many or not report at all.
Membership in the Airport Watch does not confer any special access rights or privileges. Although the Airport Watch is a volunteer organization and does not assign tasks or schedule duties, it is expected that members will be present in the airport vicinity a modest number of hours each year. Personal information that is gathered in the course of establishing a membership is used solely within the Airport Watch. A background check including a police screening is conducted for each membership application.
Airport Watch welcomes like minded aviation enthusiasts to its membership. Anyone who would like to join the group should contact us on E-Mail spotterclub1@gmail.com Airport Watch for further details
Watch Patrol
The watch patrol can take a trip around the airport ground outside the fence and outside the terminal aria fro time to time to check that all is OK.
When you are on a patrol there going to be 2 or more persons that walk or drive together, you never walk alone. The risk of getting in to a dangerous situation is small but it's for the general safety that we do this. And it depends on the country how safe it is around the airports.
The things that the watch is basic looking for is.
On big airports we going to look in to set up a base station that coordinate this watch and keep track of the patrols that are out and where they are. And that keep the contact between the watch personnel and the airport police.
